This exceptional collection of twenty-seven original snapshot photos (4.5x3.25) captures members of the Brooklyn Dodgers on the field prior to a game against the Philadelphia Phillies at Ebbets Field on August 12, 1956. Each of these photos was taken by our consignor with his Brownie camera while he attended the game with his parents. They have remained in his sole possession since that time and are therefore new to the hobby. This is a wonderful time capsule showing the unique relationship the Brooklyn Dodgers players had with their fans. Twenty-two of the photos were taken up close, from a first-row field-level location, and picture the players as they interact with the fans. Some of the players are seen posing with fans on the field, while others are seen conversing with fans or signing autographs. Among the players featured here, many more than once, are Jackie Robinson (final season), Roy Campanella, Duke Snider, Pee Wee Reese (in one he is pictured posing while holding a young boy dressed in a Dodgers uniform), Gil Hodges, Don Newcombe, Sal Maglie, Don Drysdale (rookie season), Junior Gilliam, Carl Furillo, Clem Labine, Carl Erskine, and Gino Cimoli. The remaining five photos were taken from the mezzanine level, with four picturing game action, and the fifth showing Pee Wee Reese and Happy Felton with a group of young players during a televised filming of the "Knot-Hole Gang" show. All the photos have "Aug 56" stamped along the top border and most have the names of the players pictured written on the reverse. Excellent to Mint condition overall. This is one of the finest Brooklyn Dodgers original snapshot photo collections we have ever seen and one that would be a welcome addition to any advanced Brooklyn Dodgers collection.
