Back in the late 1940s and the 1950s, until the Brooklyn Dodgers moved to Los Angeles for the 1958 season, it seemed as if the New York Yankees and the Dodgers were in a Subway Series almost every year. Then, in '55, the Dodgers finally won the Brooklyn's first and only World Series as Brooklyn defeated the Yankees 4-3 in games. Presented is a ticket stub to Game 1 of that iconic '55 Series, a 6-5 Yankee win at Yankee Stadium in a day game before 63,869 fans. The '55 Series opener had Whitey Ford on the mound for the Yankees and Don Newcombe started and took the loss for the Dodgers. The Yankees hit three home runs off Newcombe, with Elston Howard hitting a two-run shot in the second inning, and Joe Collins homering twice, a bases empty blast in the second frame and a two-run homer in the fourth inning. Whitey Ford got the victory, giving up five runs, three of them earned in eight innings. Carl Furillo and Duke Snider hit solo home runs for Brooklyn. Jackie Robinson hit a triple for Brooklyn and also reached first base on an error and later stole home, sliding in under a tag by Yogi Berra, a tag that Yogi always later swore that would have made Robinson out at home. The ticket stub measures 2.25x4.25", a lower stand box seat costing $10.50. The ticket stub has been encapsulated and graded PSA VG-EX 4.
