Presented is a 1947 World Series ticket stub from Game 1, on September 30th, the first World Series game for Brooklyn Dodgers Hall of Famer Jackie Robinson, and the first time in baseball history that an African American player (Robinson) had appeared in the World Series. This game also marked the first ever World Series appearance for New York Yankees Hall of Famer Yogi Berra. The Yankees won Game 1 by a 5-3 score and won the Series in seven games. In this Sept. 30th game, Robinson batted second and played second base. He was 0-2 at bat, but he drew two walks and had a stolen base. Berra batted third and caught for the Yankees, and he went 0-4, and caught the entire game for New York as Spec Shea got the win, with four innings of relief by Joe Page. In Robinson's rookie season, he was the NL Rookie of the Year, hit .297 and led the National League with 29 steals. He was a lifetime .313 hitter with 148 homers, and 200 steals. Jackie was the 1947 NL MVP, when he topped the NL with a .342 batting average, and he helped the Brooklyn Dodgers to their only World's Championship in 1955. Berra played 19 Major League seasons, all but his last season (when he briefly played for the New York Mets) with the New York Yankees. Yogi was a 3-time American League MVP, helped the Yankees to 10 World Series titles, and hit .285 lifetime, with 358 homers. The ticket stub measures 2.25x4.25". It is for a Lower Stand box seat. The stub shows some natural darkening because of the passage of time. It has been encapsulated and graded PSA VG-EX 4.
