Atlanta Braves check made out to - and signed by - Hall of Fame pitcher Leroy "Satchel" Paige. Measuring just over 8.25x3.25", the check is dated November 18, 1968 and is in the amount of $500. Signed "Leroy Paige" on the back in blue ballpoint ink grading 7/10. On August 12 of that year, Atlanta Braves owner William Bartholomay agreed to sign Paige as an assistant trainer, after the former Negro Leagues star scoured MLB for employment so he could reach qualifying status for a pension. A few short years later, in 1971, Paige became the first player inducted into the Hall of Fame by the newly-formed Negro Leagues Commission, and he was also the first Negro Leagues player so recognized.
