Harry Pulliam was the son of a Kentucky tobacco businessman, and Pulliam became a baseball executive and later the President of the National League. Pulliam was the secretary to owner Barney Dreyfuss of the Louisville Colonels of the National League. When the league contacted from twelve to eight teams in 1899, Pulliam continued to work for Dreyfuss, who bought an interest in the Pittsburgh Pirates and took Honus Wagner with them from Louisville to Pittsburgh. Pulliam became the sixth President of the National League in 1903 and he stayed in that position until his death in 1909. In addition to being credited with helping to take Honus Wagner to Pittsburgh, Dreyfuss was credited in paving the way for the National and American Leagues to make peace and unite. The Harry Pulliam Cigar labels are sometimes seen, but seldom do we see the actual cigar box. Pulliam's picture is on the outside lid and again on the inside. Gloves, catchers' masks, and a baseball are all repeatedly pictured on the box. The box measures approx. 4.25x5.5x1.5". The box is intact. It does show some small paper loss in various areas, especially in the corners and underneath. The box also exhibits creasing, especially on the cover. There is also a small bend in the cover. Despite some minor defects, the cigar box is in remarkably good condition, especially considering its over a hundred-year-old age.
