Offered is a Chicago Cubs game worn hat circa 1962. It's very rare to find a Cubs' hat from this era. Taking 1962 as a reference point, the Cubs were in their 91st season in the National League, their 87th season in the National league and their 47th season at Wrigley Field. Hall of Famer Ernie Banks was still playing first base and still hitting home runs (37 that year). Rookie Ron Santo, another future Hall of Famer, was playing third base. Hall of Famer Lou Brock was another rookie, and he played center field and stole 16 bases that season, but he would go on to break Ty Cobb's modern stolen base record. Yet another Hall of Famer was left fielder Billy Williams, who smashed 22 home runs and hit .298. For 1962, the National League added the New York Mets and the Houston Colt .45s to the league. The Cubs had future Hall of Famers at four positions, but they lacked pitching and finished in 9th place. The hat is blue with a red "C" on the front of the cap, and a red button on top. The size 6 3/4 Wilson hat shows use, but we do not know the player or team member who wore it since there is no uniform number inside. The Wilson manufacturer's tag is at the back of the sweatband as is the size, stamped next to the manufacturer's tag. Most of the use is visible inside the hat and the outside remains in excellent condition. The offering is a nice memento from Cub days of about six decades ago.
