Presented is a 1942 team signed Boston Red Sox baseball with Hall of Famer Ted Williams' signature on the sweet spot. Also signing the Official American League Baseball (Harridge) are fellow Hall of Famers Bobby Doerr and Joe Cronin, and 11 more players. The '42 Red Sox had a good club that finished second in the AL with a record of 93-59. Ted Williams was not yet in military service and other star players on the team were also soon to enter the service. Williams led the team with 36 home runs, a club leading 137 RBIs, and, for regular players on the team, the highest batting average at .356. Bobby Doerr was second on the club homer list with 20 round trippers, and Ted Hughson led the pitching staff with 22 wins. Cronin was the playing-manager. At least five of the 14 signatures on the ball are illegible, and some others are legible but exhibit fading. Also signing the ball was Johnny Pesky, a long-time shortstop and coach with the team, and famous for occasional "Pesky Pole" home runs to the right field corner. Stellar center fielder Dom DiMaggio, the brother of Joe DiMaggio and known as "The Little Professor" for his small stature and glasses, also imparted his signature. Some of the other legible signatures: Lancelot "Yank" Terry, Mace Brown, Paul Campbell, and Pete Fox. The ball shows darkening and fading, and there are places on the ball where small pieces of the skin are peeled or scuffed. The Ted Williams signature has spots in which the ball has exhibited some peeling or scuffing. Overall, the condition of the ball is poor. The general condition of the signatures is poor, but the key signatures, those of Williams, Doerr, Cronin, Dom DiMaggio, and Johnny Pesky, are legible. The ball has value for the signatures of its revered Red Sox Hall of Famers and stars.
