Jim Rice Louisville Slugger signature-model ("S226") bat dating from the 1983-1986 manufacturing period. The bat, which measures 35" in length and weighs 28.5 ounces, displays evidence of moderate-to-heavy use, including ball and cleat marks on the barrel, and a repaired crack in the handle. Rice's uniform number ("14") is written on the knob in black marker. Although Rice's uniform number is written on the knob, it must be pointed out that factory records indicate Rice never ordered a "S226" model bat during his professional career, therefore it is possible that this bat was used by another player. Despite being a 10-year veteran entering the 1983 season, Rice showed no sign of slowing down, finishing the year with league-leading totals in home runs (39) and RBI (126), while batting .305. He continued to post solid numbers for the next three seasons, driving in over 100 runs each year and batting .324 in 1986 to help lead the Red Sox to the American League pennant. He was elected to the Hall of Fame in 2009.
