Sandy Koufax, at 36-years-of-age, was the youngest player to ever be inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame. Koufax was a "Bonus Baby" who was signed for $14,000 and according to the rules of the time, had to remain on the Brooklyn Dodgers roster for two years. He had limited Major League success until 1961-66, when he had phenomenal achievement. Koufax had a record of 129-47 in those six campaigns. He won three Cy Young Awards, and three Triple Crowns for pitchers, as he led the NL in wins, strikeouts, and ERA in the same season. Koufax was the first pitcher to pitch four no-hitters (one of those a perfect game). He was a part of three World Championships for the Brooklyn/Los Angeles Dodgers. The colorful Topps card was issued during the second season of Koufax's career. In 1956, Koufax was still having the control problems that he had exhibited in his rookie season, and he went only 2-4 with a 4.91 ERA. The horizontal card has a head shot of Sandy on the right and an action shot of his pitching on the left. There is also a large, facsimile autograph on the left. The gray back card has been encapsulated and graded PSA EX 5. This 1956 remains popular as a vivid, visually pleasing card of one of the greatest pitchers of all time.
