Unique collection of original snapshot photos, many of which include the original negative, picturing Major League game action between the years 1914 and 1916. Eight of the photos picture game action between the Philadelphia Athletics and St. Louis Browns at Shibe Park on July 11, 1914. Each photo (3.25x2.25") includes vintage handwritten notations on the reverse, which includes the players pictured and the date. Among the players featured are Frank "Home Run" Baker, Bob Shawkey, Tillie Walker, Jimmy Austin, and Chick Davies. Seven of the eight photos are accompanied by the original negative (3.5x2.5"). The A's and Browns played a doubleheader that day, with the Browns winning the first game 4-3 and the A's winning the nightcap 6-4. As noted on the reverse of one photo, A's pitcher Chick Davies made his Major League debut in the second game, recording his only win of the season. The second group of photos in the collection consists of four photos (3.25x2") from a game between the New York Giants and Chicago Cubs at Weeghman Park in Chicago on July 21, 1916 (dated on the photo), and two others (3x2") which are not dated (one is marked Giants vs. Cubs on the reverse and is most likely from the July 21st game, the other bears no markings but is also most likely from the same game as well; both are stamped with the name "W. S. Nurenburg" on the reverse). One of the undated photos includes the original negative (2.75x1.75"). The four dated photos from the second group had the date etched into the negative, which appears as white printing on the developed print. Players featured include Buck Herzog, Jeff Tesreau, and Gene Packard. The Giants defeated the Cubs 2-1 on that date. The final two items in the collection are a negative (3.5x2.5"; which appears to be from the A's/Browns game on July 11, 1914) and a 1913 Philadelphia Athletics regular season ticket stub (2.5x1.25"; GD) issued for a game on July 11 (the A's played Cleveland that day, winning 11-5; Joe Jackson had a triple for Cleveland in the game). Two of the A's/Browns photos each display a small corner chip and light creasing, while one of the negatives displays a small interior tear. The remainder of the photos and negatives are in Excellent condition overall.
