Displayed is a beautiful vintage Wagon Tongue bat manufactured by Spalding circa 1890s. These bats were actually originally made from the wood of carriages and carts, hence the Wagon Tongue label. Later in the Nineteenth Century, the bats were no longer made from wagon parts, and the bat was made from ash wood. This bat is 34.5" long and it weighs 37.9 ounces. The handle is taped nicely. On the bat barrel is etched "Spalding" and "Model 3/OT," a popular model. The knob has a chip in the wood. The bat shows nice use, and it is in overall great condition. This visually appealing, hefty 19th century bat makes a fine addition to any sports room, den or office, and it is sure to inspire interest.
