Along with Faneuil Hall, Boston Common, and the Paul Revere House, Carl Yastrzemski is a Boston institution and displayed is a beautifully hand-painted Official American League Baseball (Lee MacPhail) that is single signed by the great Red Sox Hall of Famer. The ball was painted and signed in 1980. Yaz played all of his 23 seasons for Boston, and he had 3,419 hits (6th all-time), 1,844 RBIs (12th all-time), and 452 home runs (33rd all-time). It wasn't easy to follow Ted Williams as Boston's left fielder, but Yaz did it - in style. He learned to play the caroms off the Green Monster to perfection and won seven Gold Glove Awards. Red Sox fans loved Yastrzemski, and he loved playing before them in Fenway Park. "I came to love Fenway Park," he recounted. "It was a place that rejuvenated me after a road trip; the fans right on top of you, the nutty angles. And the Wall. That was my place. The ...Green Monster." The ball was hand-painted by artist Rhea Schaefer, noted for her work on hand-painted baseballs, and she has printed her name in black ink on an adjacent panel to her image of Yastrzemski. Carl has inscribed "To the Collins Boys, My Personal Regards," and Yaz has signed the ball just underneath his inscription, with both the inscription and the signature in blue ink from a ballpoint pen. The ball has some toning, but the signature, inscription and painting are 8/10. This single signed hand painted ball makes an unusual, and visually impressive, addition to any collection.
