Presented is a rare full ticket to the 1956 Baseball All-Star Game, played before 28,843 fans and held on July 10 at Griffith Stadium, in Washington, D.C. An interesting facet of the game when observed in retrospect is the advantage that the National League held in future African American Hall of Famers. Starting with the debut of Jackie Robinson in 1947, the National League signed significantly more African American players than did the Senior Circuit. The 1956 National League All-Star squad had black future Hall of Famers in: Willie Mays, Ernie Banks, Roy Campanella, Hank Aaron, and Frank Robinson. The American League squad had only two African American players - Harry Simpson and Vic Power, neither a future Hall of Famer. In the game, the National Leaue won 7-3, as the Pittsburgh Pirates' Bob Friend took the victory, and the Chicago White Sox' Billy Pierce had the loss. The New York Giants' Willie Mays hit a two-run homer. The New York Yankees' Mickey Mantle homered for the American League, off the Milwaukee Braves' Warren Spahn. The very colorful ticket measures approx. 2.5x7". It has a small pencil mark on the back and a few creases that do not break the paper. The ticket, for the lower grandstand (at $4.00), includes a small image of Clark Griffith, the famed former American League player, manager, and owner. He owned the Washington Senators from 1920 until his death in 1955. The scarce ticket has been encapsulated and graded PSA Authentic.
