Brad Lidge had a phenomenal season as the Philadelphia Phillies' closer in 1908. The Phillies had a regular season record of 92-70, and Lidge went an amazing 41/41 in save opportunities, becoming the first closer in Philadelphia Phillies' history to have a perfect regular season in save opportunities. In the post-season, Lidge continued his perfection. He went 7/7 in save opportunities, including 2/2 in the Phillies' World Series triumph over the Tampa Bay Rays. Lidge recorded this second World Series save when he got the final out of the Series, a strikeout of Tampa Bay's Eric Hinske. The ball is not dated, but we know it was used in a game at Washington, and the Phillies won with Lidge getting the save. He did that feat three times that season: On May 20, July 19, and July 20. The ball came from Lidge himself. It was used for one of the record setting saves during the 2008 Phillies' season. Lidge has written on the ball - in black ink from a ballpoint pen - "NL Rolaids Relief Award," "48/48 saves '08 season," W.S. Champs." Lidge's signature is also in black ink from a ballpoint pen, and he has signed on the sweet spot "Brad Lidge 54." The ball is an Official National League Baseball (Allen B "Bud" Selig). The Rawlings ball also has a stamped image of Nationals Park, the home of the new Washington franchise. The accompanying writing reads "2008 Inaugural Season/Washington D.C." The ball shows good use. Lidge's hand-written comments enhance the value of this unusual keepsake.
