The 1979 Challenge Cup was a series of three international games between the Soviet Union National Hockey Team and the National Hockey League All-star Team. The games were held at Madison Square Garden in New York City, on Feb. 8, 10, and 11, 1979. Offered is a rare 1979 ticket stub from Game 2 of the Challenge Cup by by winning Soviet goalie Vladislav Tretiak. The NHL roster featured such stars as: Goalies - Ken Dryden, Gerry Cheevers, and Tony Esposito; Defensemen - Larry Robinson, and Dennis Potvin, Clark Gillies, Bill Barber, Bobby Clarke, Marcel Dionne, Guy Lefleur, and Mike Bossy. Tretiak is one of the greatest goalies in hockey history. He was on both the 1976 and 1984 Gold Medal winning teams, and he was on the Soviet team that won the 1981 Canada Cup. He was also a member of 10 World Championship IIHL teams. He was the first Soviet player in the Hockey Hall of Fame, and he was one of only six players voted to the IIHL Centennial All-Star Team. In the '79 Challenge Cup, the NHL All-Stars won the first game, on Oct. 8th, 4-2. In the second game, played before 17,000 spectators, Tretiak was in goal for the Soviets. Even though the NHL held a 4-2 lead, Tretiak held the NHL scoreless the rest of the contest while the Soviets came back to win 5-4. The Soviets won the Challenge Cup the next game with a 6-0 win. The colorful 2.75x5.1" ticket (stub) is priced at $25.00 for a Second Promenade seat. Tretiak signed and inscribed the ticket stub in blue ink. After his signature, Tretiak added his number "20" and "H.O.F. 89." This is a rare Tretiak signature that is fittingly written upon a ticket stub to one his memorable triumphs. The ticket stub has been encapsulated and graded PSA AUTHENTIC.
