Presented is a ticket stub from the May 5, 1978, game at Cincinnati's Riverfront Stadium in which the Cincinnati Reds Pete Rose got his 3,000 hit. Rose was unusually quiet (for him) before the game against the Montreal Expos, in which the Expos won 4-3, probably because he was within two hits of reaching 3,000. A crowd of 37,823 watched as Rose faced Montreal starter Steve Rogers in the first inning and reached second base on a two-base error from the Expos' left-fielder, Warren Cromartie. In the third inning, Rose reached on a single off Rogers on a Baltimore chop, and he was one-hit away. In the fifth inning, Rose got up to bat against Rogers as the scoreboard message said, "2,999 - 1 To Go." On a 1-0 count, Rose lined the ball for a single over the head of Montréal third baseman Larry Parrish and pandemonium reigned with a prolonged standing ovation. Eventually, Rose would go on to amass 4,256 hits, becoming the all-time MLB hit leader. The ramifications from allegations that Rose bet on baseball have kept Rose from the Hall of Fame, but this game is a very memorable moment in baseball history. The ticket stub has been encapsulated and graded PSA VG-EX 4. There are only four ticket stubs at this grade in the PSA Pop Report, and only four are graded higher.
