1947 Bond Bread Jackie Robinson Portrait card with facsimile autograph. Graded EX+ 5.5 by PSA. First issued in 1947, the year of Robinson's historic Major League debut, the Bond Bread Jackie Robinson cards represent his true rookie issue and have always been a favorite among collectors. The set consists of thirteen cards, but the offered example (portrait with facsimile signature) is the only card in the set to feature a biography of Robinson on the reverse. For that reason, it has been speculated that this card was a special promotion given away by local merchants to herald the remaining cards in the set, which were distributed individually in packages of Bond Bread. Aside from slight centering to the bottom, this is an outstanding example of this classic Robinson card, with sharp corners and smooth edges. The reverse is clean and defect free. It should be noted that of the 116 examples of this Robinson Bond Bread card listed in the PSA Population Report, only thirty-five have been graded higher. This is an exceptional mid-to-high-grade Robinson Bond Bread rookie card and one that would be a welcome addition to any advanced Jackie Robinson or baseball-card collection.
