Jim Thome Louisville Slugger pro-model ("M356") bat dating to his last two seasons with the Cleveland Indians. The bat, which is not cracked, measures 34.5 inches and weighs 32.25 ounces. Thome's facsimile signature and team affiliation ("Cleveland Indians") are stamped on the barrel, along with the model number ("M356"). Heavy use is displayed throughout, including ball marks, seam impressions, pine tar, a thick wrap of tape around the knob (extending four inches up the handle) and moderate-to-heavy checking (grain separation) on the back of the barrel. Based upon the barrel stampings on the reverse, featuring the MLB and TPX logos, this bat dates to the 2001-2005 manufacturing period. Since Thome's last season with Cleveland was in 2002, the bat can more narrowly assigned to the two-year time span 2001-2002. The amount of use on this bat is not surprising, given that 2001 and 2002 were arguably the two finest overall seasons of Thome's career. Thome batted .291 with 49 home runs and 124 RBI in 2001. The following year he batted .304 with a career-high 52 home runs and 118 RBI. One of greatest sluggers of the modern era, Thome finished his career with 612 home runs, 1,699 RBI, and a .276 lifetime average. He was elected to the Hall of Fame in 2018, his first year of eligibility. This is an outstanding Thome game-used bat in all respects, with the checking on the reverse the only minor flaw. On a scale of 1-10, we would grade this bat a 9, making it an especially desirable game bat dating from his last two seasons in Cleveland.
