The photo on the cover of this October 1951 issue of Sport is a nice shot of a semi-smiling Robinson, in a pristine Brooklyn Dodger uniform, sliding. The fiercely competitive Robinson didn't do much smiling as he barreled into bases or home plate, and in ball games his diving for balls and sliding on the bases usually quickly dirtied his uniform, but most fans knew this and could appreciate a nice Robinson photo, most likely shot in a studio. When this photo was probably taken, the 1951 pennant race seemed to be a lock for Brooklyn and few fans thought that the Giants could come from behind to catch them. That was before the Giants won the 1951 pennant through the Miracle of Coogan's Bluff. Robinson was in his fifth Major League season in 1951. Still playing second base, he hit .338 that year, with 106 runs scored, 19 homers, and 88 RBIs. The feature story about Robinson was written by Milton Gross and it is titled "The Emancipation of Jackie Robinson." The magazine measures 8.5x10.75". It has been encapsulated and graded by CGC 7.5. With 2022 being the 75th Anniversary of Robinson's historic breaking of the Major League "color line" in 1947, this magazine becomes even more relevant.
