Boston Red Sox regular-season program, issued for a game against the Chicago White Sox, dating from the 1904 season. Boston's 1904 program is one that has always been especially coveted by collectors because of its many unique features. The cover displays a portrait image of player/manager Jimmy Collins, below which is an illustration of "Nuf Red" McGreevy, leader of the legendary Boston Royal Rooters. The interior is equally attractive, including two full-page advertisements for the Carl Horner Photography Studio. The first, on page one, advertises Horner's 1904 Boston Red Sox team composite. The second, on the last page, advertises Horner's 1903 American League team composite. As most collectors are aware, both of those pieces today are not only rare, but represent two of the finest baseball photographic displays ever created. Also included within the interior pages are portrait images of Cy Young and American League president Ban Johnson, and Boston's 1904 schedule. The preprinted lineups include Collins, Stahl, Parent, and Young for Boston, and Jones, Callahan, and Davis for Chicago. The program (5.25x7.75"), which is not scored, displays a small edge tear on the back cover, and a tiny interior stain that affects a few pages. In Excellent condition overall. Boston won the American League pennant in 1904 but they were unable to defend their World Championship because the New York Giants refused to play them in the World Series. An outstanding example of this highly desirable program that appeals to a wide range of collectors.
