Rare ribbon pin issued by The Philadelphia Inquirer during the 1914 World Series, which matched the Philadelphia Athletics against the "Miracle" Boston Braves. This is the first example of this pin we have ever seen. The design of the circular pin features a crossed bats and ball motif, with the number "25" engraved within a small shield at the top. The blue-enameled perimeter is lettered "The Philadelphia Inquirer Worlds Series Contest 1914." A red ribbon attached to the pin is lettered "The Philadelphia Inquirer," while an underlying attached blue ribbon, of which only a fragment remains, is partially lettered "World's." The pin (1.5" diameter, threaded post), which has no manufacturer stamping, is in Very Good condition overall. Both ribbons are badly torn. The red ribbon displays a large tear at the end, while the blue ribbon, which is hanging by a thread to the pin, is heavily torn and missing most of its material.
