Original Type I photograph capturing Christy Mathewson in 1922. Mathewson is pictured posing with his mother and father on the porch of their home. The photographer's credit, "Jennings - Wilkes-Barre Pa.," appears twice on the front of the photo. A lengthy handwritten notation on the reverse describes the scene. In part: "Famous ball player has won his battle with tuberculosis and and comes home to see the 'old folks' for the first time in over two years." The photographer's handwritten copyright and the year, "1922," also appear on the reverse. Although Mathewson was better than he had been in years at the time of this photo, he failed to win his battle with tuberculosis. He died just three years later at the age of forty-five. The photo (9.5x7.25") displays a few light creases, editorial markings on the front, and adhesive residue on the reverse. In Very Good condition. Culled from the legendary Brown Brothers Photo Archive. PSA encapsulated as Type I Authentic.
