Original film negative picturing New York New York Highlanders first baseman Hal Chase. The image pictures Chase standing akimbo as he poses in uniform outside the team's clubhouse. Although no year is listed, the uniform style shown here appears to date from either 1909 or 1910. Chase, who ended his career with the Giants, was considered one of the finest fielding first baseman of his era, but his reputation for “throwing” games ultimately led to his being forced out of the Majors following the 1919 season. Chase's name is written along the left border on the reverse. The negative (6.75x5") displays a diagonal crease in the upper right corner and is otherwise in Excellent condition.
