2001 represented Brady's first season as a starter, which culminated in his first of an eventual seven World Championships. Taking over the starting reigns after a serious injury sidelined incumbent starting quarterback Drew Bledsoe in the club's second game, Brady led the Patriots to an 11-5 record and a first place finish the division. After winning the infamous "Tuck Rule" game at home against the Oakland Raiders in the playoffs, Brady suffered a knee injury in the club's AFC Championship win against Pittsburgh, but was able to return for the Super Bowl. Despite being an overwhelming underdog to the Los Angeles Rams, Brady silenced all doubters by leading the Patriots to an improbable 20-17 win and their first Super Bowl victory in franchise history.
