The Giants had just defeated the Brooklyn Dodgers in the third and deciding game of the iconic 1951 National League pennant play-off on the famous Bobby Thomson "Shot Heard 'Round the World" home run. The very next day, the Giants had to open the World Series against the New York Yankees at Yankee Stadium. Game 1 marked the World Series debuts for both Willie Mays and Mickey Mantle. Mays started in center field for the Giants, batting seventh. Mays was 0-for-5 with a strikeout. Mickey Mantle batted lead-off for the Yanks. Mantle played right field in deference to Joe DiMaggio, who was playing his final season, in center field. Mickey went 0-for-3, but he did draw two walks. No one could guess that in Game 2, Mantle would seriously injure his knee after getting his spikes caught in a sprinkler drain as he avoided a collision with DiMaggio on a fly ball. The Giants won Game 1 by a 5-1 score before 65,673 fans. The Yankees won the Series in six games, their third straight World Series championship. The ticket was a ticket proof that was not valid for admission, and thus the ticket has remained whole. The ticket proof is encapsulated and graded by PSA as Full, VG-Ex 4, Pop 1-Only 1 higher. The ticket proof is for an upper stand box seat at $8.00. It features three red, white, and blue Yankee logos. Of course, Mays and Mantle would have many other World Series moments in their Hall of Fame careers, but this ticket proof remains a valued memento of their World Series debuts.
