Scarce original 1939 Baseball Centennial sleeve patch. This patch was worn on the sleeve of ever Major League jersey (and some minor league jerseys) in 1939 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the invention of baseball by Abner Doubleday in Cooperstown, New York, in 1839 (an origin story that is considered a myth by modern historians). The offered patch (3.75x4") was removed from a jersey and displays both fraying and minor tears along the perimeter, but is otherwise in Excellent condition. It should be noted that these patches were normally removed from jerseys after the 1939 season ended. Because of that, original examples such as this are highly coveted by uniform collectors wishing to fully restore 1939 Major League jerseys.
