Offered is a superb, extremely rare print by the famed printmaker Currier & Ives. It has never been framed and is in absolutely fabulous condition. Kingston is the all-time winning champion thoroughbred with 89 victories. His record would have been higher, but he was deliberately kept from winning on a few occasions to allow a stablemate to win. Owned by the successful Dwyer Brothers of Brooklyn, N.Y., Kingston raced for nine years from 1886 through 1894. Walter Vosburgh in the "Racing of America" series 1866-1921, quotes McLaughlin as stating that Kingston was the gamest, most honest horse he ever rode. At one stretch, Kingston won 33 of 35 races, setting speed records for 7 furlongs and 1 1/4 miles. The horse retired as America's leading money winner and led the sire list on two occasions. This 1891 hand-colored print is the finest known copy and was purchased from the Old Print Shop, NYC. Kingston is standing right with famed jockey James McLaughlin aboard.
