Joe DiMaggio was a marvelous ballplayer whose fame, from baseball and beyond, rose to levels that made him an American icon. Presented is the opportunity to obtain a Type I original Detroit News press photograph of Joltin' Joe in his rookie season, 1936. DiMaggio's fame transcended baseball. Simon and Garfunkel referenced DiMaggio in their hit song "Mrs. Robinson," when they sang, "Where have you gone, Joe DiMaggio, a nation turns its lonely heart to you." Here is an approximately 6.75x8.25" black and white photo of the Hall of Famer as he was just getting started. This was before his still all-time consecutive game hitting streak of 56 games that he set in 1941. In the season of this photo, DiMaggio hit .323, with 29 homers and 125 RBI, quite a debut. After his career, Joe married Marilyn Monroe. Once, after seeing Joe after she returned from entertaining troops in South Korea, Monroe said, "Joe, you've never heard such cheering." The retired DiMaggio, recalling his own days in the spotlight, replied. "Yes, I have." And he had. The 3-time AL MVP, 2-time batting champ, had been a 9-time World Series champion with the Yankees. This Type I photo has been graded PSA Authentic.
