These captivating scrapbooks are straight from the Nellie Fox family. Nellie is a HOF second baseman who played in the majors for 19 seasons, 14 of them with the Chicago White Sox. Fox was the AL MVP in 1959 when the White Sox won the pennant but lost the World Series to the Los Angeles Dodgers. With today's deluge of strikeouts, it's worth noting that Fox is the third most difficult hitter to strike out in MLB history. Fox was a 3-time Gold Glove winner and a 15-time All-Star, and he led the American league in hits four times. He is remembered also for the large wad of chewing tobacco almost always in his cheek. The lot contains six (6) scrapbooks and one additional one that is decorated on the cover but has no contents. These scrapbooks are all about Nellie, ranging from clippings from his earliest days in baseball (1940s) up until his last coaching job with the Texas Rangers. There are more than clippings - some original photos are from as early as Nellie's playing days in the minors with the Lancaster Red Roses days (1945). One scrapbook was from the president of his fan club and included newsletters from the fan club. there is an early award on merit and other neat personal items, all glued in. What a fascinating trove for any fan of baseball's Golden Age.
