Jackie Robinson negative from the Type I iconic photo of April 10, 1947, that depicts Hall of Famer Robinson in a Montreal Royals uniform outside the Brooklyn Dodgers clubhouse on the day it was announced that the Dodgers had purchased his contract. Very rare paper caption on the back of the original photo (caption not shown on negative) and the caption on the actual photo is dated "4/10/47" and reads, "Jackie Robinson, first baseman for the Montreal Royals, stands by the Brooklyn Dodger door Apr. 10 at Ebbets Field. Branch Rickey, Dodger Mahatma, announced the the Flock had purchased the contract of Robinson from the Montreal Club. It is highly likely that Jackie will be on the initial sack when the Dodgers begin their season." Robinson was indeed the Dodgers' Opening Day first baseman when he broke the modern "color line" on April 15, 1947. Robinson went hitless in the game against the Boston Braves, but he was flawless in the field, and he reached first base on an error in the seventh inning and scored the eventual winning run.
