Pittsburgh Pirates road jersey worn by Frank Thomas during the 1956 season. This is a scarce "style" jersey that was used by the club only during the 3-year span 1954-1956. The gray flannel jersey is lettered "Pirates" across the front and features the number "15" on the reverse. All letters and numerals are applied in black on gold felt. Located in the collar are a "MacGregor size 46" label and a white strip tag with the name "Thomas" chain-stitched in black. A flag tag on the interior right tail reads "Set 1 1956." The jersey is all original and displays moderate-to-heavy wear. Thomas appeared in a league-high 157 games in 1956 and finished the year with 25 home runs, 80 RBI, and a .282 batting average. Thomas enjoyed a long 16-year career in the Majors, but his finest seasons were spent in Pittsburgh between the years 1953 and 1958. During that span, he was consistently one of the league's top power hitters, averaging 27 home runs and 91 RBI a year. He retired in 1966 with 286 home runs, 962 RBI, and a .266 lifetime average.
