Yankee Stadium base used during Cal Ripken's final appearance at Yankee Stadium on September 30, 2001. A special insert appears on each side of the base. Two (on opposite sides) feature Ripken's uniform number (8), while the other two display, respectively, the Yankees "NY" logo and the MLB logo. An MLB hologram label (GT040309) is affixed to the underside. The hologram label was issued for the complete set of three bases used that day, of which this is one, so we cannot state with certainty which base (1st, 2nd, or 3rd) it represents. Heavy use is evident, including soiling and cleat marks. Fans had plenty of opportunity to say goodbye to Ripken that day, as the teams played 15 innings before the game ultimately ended in a 1-1 rain-induced tie. The base is accompanied by a full ticket to the game (NM), a special commemorative ticket issued for the game (NRMT), and a Plexiglass display case. Please note: the size and/or weight of this lot will necessitate an increased shipping charge.
