Scarce 1947 Brooklyn Dodgers "Welcome Home" silk banner signed in blue or black ink by approximately thirty team members, including Jackie Robinson. This is the first signed example of this enormous banner we have ever seen, which is significant because it dates from Jackie Robinson's historic rookie season. The colorful banner reads "Welcome Brooklyn Dodgers 1947 National League Champions." Gold tassels decorate the bottom border and a metal grommet appears in each top corner. This is one of a many banners that were hung outdoors at a special local ceremony honoring the Dodgers after they clinched the pennant that year. Robinson's signature appears in the lower left corner and grades 4/10. The remaining Brooklyn Dodgers signatures on the banner include those of Vaughan, Reese, Hodges, Furillo, Stanky, Lavagetto, Reiser, King, Jorgenson, Shotton (Mgr.), Pitler (coach), Brown, Taylor, Sukeforth, Gregg, Miksis, Barney, Walker, Branca, Hatten, Gionfriddo, Bankhead, Edwards, Behrman, Lombardi, Rojek, and Bragan. Also signed by team photographer Barney Stein and clubhouse man "Senator" John Griffin. The signatures, which are light, grade 4/10 on average, and a few have faded beyond legibility. The banner measures 36x36" and displays moderate wear, including crazing to the painted letters and graphics. Very Good condition. Mounted and framed to total dimensions of 41.5x42". Comes with JSA auction LOA. Please note: the size and/or weight of this lot will necessitate an increased shipping charge.
