Imperial team cabinet photo of the 1920 H. P. Hood & Sons company baseball team. The crystal-clear photo captures 13 team members posing together in the stands, with bats and other equipment displayed in the foreground. The white-lettered text along the base of the mount reads "Base Ball Team/Season of 1920/H.P Hood & Sons/Dairy Experts." The company logo also appears at the base. H.P Hood, which is still in existence, is an iconic New England dairy company that was founded in 1846. Even without knowing the sponsor, one could easily infer that this was a top amateur club by the high-quality uniforms  and equipment presented here. Back during that time, companies often openly recruited players for their teams by giving them high-paying positions or "no-show" jobs as enticements. We don't know if Hood engaged in that practice, but we would bet that the club shown here was one of the top teams in the area. Photos of this size and quality were expensive to produce and this piece was most likely commissioned for display in the company's main office. The photo (17.5x14") displays a few tiny chips at the base near the center bat and is otherwise in Near Mint condition. Likewise, the mount to which it is affixed displays light staining near the base and is otherwise Near Mint in its appearance. Framed to total dimensions of 25.5x22". Please note: the size and/or weight of this lot will necessitate an increased shipping charge.
