Harry Vardon was a golfer from Jersey, one of the Channel Islands between England and France. Born in 1870, he was the first noted professional to discard formal dress, and instead wear more comfortable knickerbockers. He was a member of the "Great Triumvirate," the three great golfers of his era, including John Henry Taylor and James Braid. He won a still-record six Open Championships, and he took the U.S. Open in 1900. Vardon popularized the overlapping grip now used by most golfers. The vintage black and white signed postcard measures approximately 3.5x5.25". It is signed and inscribed on the front using black ink from a fountain pen, and it reads, "To Neil [? - Name indistinct], All My Good Wishes Your Pal Harry Vardon." Vardon is nattily dressed in hat, topcoat, dress shirt and tie. The postcard has been encapsulated and graded by PSA/DNA Certified as AUTHENTIC AUTO. Vardon posthumously became an original inductee to the World Golf Hall of Fame in 1974. The signed card is valuable as a memento from one of golfing's vintage stars and innovators.
