A rare collection of (4) boxing James Jem Mace cabinet cards. 'Mace
is widely regarded as one of the great Victorian pugilists, and indeed is often
considered the father of the scientific school of pugilism. He was a champion of England (having
previously won the middleweight title) and at one period had recognition as
champion of the world. After his
fighting career was essentially over he appeared with circuses and on the music
hall stage in exhibitions in England, America, Australia and, as an old man,
even South Africa. He is a Ring Hall of Fame member and an International Boxing Hall of Fame inductee in 1990. All cards are approximately 6.5x4.5". Lot includes (1) JHT Gorus of Sydney card GD, (1) Barowell card GD-VG, (1) WP Shrubsole of Norwich PR, and (1) unidentified color card PR.
