An original 1890s cabinet card of boxing champ Frank Erne, who was
known by the moniker "The Buffalo Boy." Fighting in the last
decade of the 19th century and the first of the 20th, he
became world featherweight champion in 1896 and world lightweight champion in
1899 (a title he retained until his one round loss to boxing legend Joe Gans in
1902). Erne was known as a defensive wizard and lived
a long life after boxing due to the little amount of punishment he received in
the ring. It was always remarked that Erne's defensive prowess could be seen in
his total lack of scarring or evidence that he was a boxer during his life. He
became an International Boxing Hall of Fame member in 2020. Card measure
6.75x3.25" and was made by Lawrence Novelty & Supply Company in New
York. Card is in GD condition.
