Many of those who watched him play call Willie Mays the greatest baseball player ever. Sourcing from our consignor who was a long time Pirates and White Sox minor league batting practice pitcher, this hat has a great history. After Mays' playing days, he was regular at spring training acting as a coach and training instructor with then-manager Roger Craig. Craig apparently "saved" a few pieces that the Say Hey Kid wore and kept them for his collection. When our consignor finally met Roger Craig, the two discussed their personal collections and our consignor quickly learned that Craig was interested in trading for one of his old L.A. Dodgers jerseys that was now in our consignors collection. Craig offered this very Mays hat as a trade and a deal was struck. New Era size 7 hat has a black body with orange brim and features a hand written "24" on the underside in black marker along with "Willie Mays Coach Worn Hat - 660 hr's" hand written on the inside. Hat presents well with only a few cracks felt in the bill. Comes with LOA.
