Simply spectacular in design and condition and exceedingly rare, these circa 1890s figurines are by far the largest and most desirable of the popular Huebach issues. Unlike the standard-sized figures, these four gems stand at 16" tall, with two players wearing blue-striped uniforms and the others in red stripes. One holding a ball is clearly a pitcher, another has a bat (removable and included), there's one fielder and one baserunner. These were made in sizes ranging from about 7" to these 16" beauties; the larger ones are hard to find at all let alone in this condition, and the set includes all four as generally just the Pitcher and Batter are featured. Because of their delicate nature, few of these have stood the test of time and none better than this set, which rates in NM condition. In fact, we've only seen two such examples previously, one was reconditioned (these are not), so this is a rare prize, ironically crafted by Germany's top porcelain manufacturer at a time when baseball did not have nearly the appeal it does now outside the United States.
