Unusual artifact relating to Babe Ruth; this cannister and parachute were used by Ruth when he needed "medicine" dropped prior to ball games. There are written accounts of this and is agreed that this may have been more for show than anything. Sturdy aluminum canister resembling a modern-day Thermos has a canvas covering and is labeled "HARDIN PARAHUTE COMPANY INC. USA." Several paper labels are glued to the canvas, with one saying, "Deliver Immediately To Babe, Very Important, From Mrs. Babe," and the other noting, "Please Deliver Immediately To Babe Ruth At The Polo Grounds, From Mrs. Babe Ruth, Very Important." The paper labels are tattered but the the type is mostly readable when looked at closely. Also included is the bright orange parachute; it would make sense if this was, in fact, for show, as anything descending from this parachute would certainly be hard to miss.
