Spectacular and rare 1923 New York Yankees team photo, including a rookie Lou Gehrig. Less than five of these Type I photos are known to exist and this is all the more special as Gehrig joined the squad at age 19 midway through that season and appeared in just 13 games. Less formal than modern team shots, this 9.5x5" image portrays the team nicely posed but with players looking in various directions (possibly at multiple cameras) as fans file into Yankee Stadium - opened that very year - in the background. Though the Bronx Bombers captured that year's World Series, the youthful Gehrig was left off the postseason roster, thus that year is not included in his six championships. Publishers marks in pen and pencil on verso along with multiple stamps from Brown Brothers; this is the second of two from their incredible collection of photographs and negatives. PSA encapsulated Type I.
