Scarce postcard features the independent African-American team formed in 1907 named the St. Paul Colored Gophers. The Gophers were one of the more historic clubs of the time and were known for their early distaste of segregation in baseball.
Rare image features the owner of the team, P.E. Reid. "Daddy Reid" and other Negro League legends such as outfielder Willis Jones played with the Colored Gophers from 1907-08.
In 1909, the Colored Gophers defeated the Lelands Giants, known as the most powerful African-American team at that time.
Postcard is approximately 3.5x5.5", covered with protective holder at 4x7".
