Outstanding shot of Jim Thorpe in baseball uniform, circa 1910s. The multi-sport sensation is shown holding a bat in a packed stadium as a gaggle of photographers huddle to his left. Photo is 6x4.75" and very clean, with only a couple of corner creases. Back contains ID in pencil and Brown Brothers stamps, from the noted photo archivists. After winning the gold medal in decathlon at the 1912 Olympics, Thorpe took up baseball and while his numbers were unimpressive to start, he batted a strong .327 in the 1919 campaign, his last. PSA Type I encapsulated.
