William Hefflefinger has a place in football lore as the first player ever to receive payment for playing, in 1892, thus becoming a "professional," but this photo shows a previously unknown side of the man known as "Pudge." This circa 1890 photo includes Hefflefinger as part of the Chicago Athletic Association baseball team. The photo itself is 9.5x7.75" and is mounted on cardboard to 13x11". The photo is in GD-VG condition, with water damage at the top border obscuring a couple of the players' faces, and yellowing of the card on which it's mounted. Nonetheless, the historic impact and even the very existence of this photo makes it an important artifact. Also included is an 8.5x11" photo of Pudge in football garb.
