Truly a special piece, this is meant to be a trophy but is unlike any we have seen. This is extremely early for football and has an incredible "singular" raised figural image of the earliest footballer. Usually, trophies of this period would carry an engraved image, or perhaps figural football equipment. There is never anything that looks quite like (or as good) as this; it has a truly special look. Interesting logos on bottom of the silversmith read "Special H Metal," "Quadruple Silver Plate" and "Homan Mfg Co." with ship's anchor logo. Most of the silver is worn off but the pewter base metal has a wonderful look and patina far more interesting than silver. This elite quality piece stands 11.25" tall.
