This magnificent gold championship ring is nearly identical to the one presented to Akebono in 1993 for becoming the Yokozuna, or grand champion, of sumo wresting in Japan. He has the distinction of becoming sumo's first foreign-born grand champion, the 64th overall, in the shortest time since entering the ring. He was born in Hawaii and quickly rose through the ranks in an illustrious 13-year career, fighting with devastating pushes that took advantage of his 6'7", 514-lb frame with 11 career championships. The ring has a "64" and a raised image of a sump wrestler on one side, and Japanese imagery and lettering on the other. Around the perimeter is "Akebono" and Yokozuna." The total weight of the gold is 36 grams. Inside is incised "Jostens 10K B8212-037 Sample." This is truly an impressive and beautiful ring in NRMT condition, an authentic salesman's sample, not a replica.
