This lot includes a Russian passport from 1906 with multi-signatures including his formal Russian birth name, a promotional 1906 photo album, and two first-generation snapshots, all from the Hackenschmidt estate. These impressive relics were once the personal property of George Hackenschmidt (1877-1968). One of the first of the great wrestling champions, the "Russian Lion" was the FIRST free-style Heavyweight Wrestling Champion of the world. He was known for his impressive strength, fitness and flexibility and, later in life, wrote many books on physical culture. A stunning find, recently unearthed in the backwoods of New Jersey. First is his personal Russian passport he used to tour during the height of his wrestling career. The Estonia-born strongman used this passport for traveling inside Russia between 1906-09, based on multiple inner stamps. The 4x6" book features extensive writing in Russian from his own hand, including four full pages. There are three full signatures, plus what we believe to be a rare signature of his real Russian name, though this is not certain. The wrestler, who also fancied himself as a writer-philosopher, was the first freestyle Heavyweight Champion of the world. Then, a photo album with spectacular images of Hackenschmidt with bio at the end detailing his life, dates to 1906. It has some cover chips front and back. One we have not seen, it was also recently obtained from the Estate, and is eight pages complete. Also, two interesting first-generation snapshots are approximately 3x4"; bold, clear images, overall EX-VG, dating from the early 1900s.
