Why is James Jeffries so forgotten? He was once considered one of the greatest Heavyweight Champions of all time by many fellow boxers and boxing experts. He is only remembered for the fight he lost against Jack Johnson and he was the only man to beat Jeffries; Johnson stated in an interview with Ring Magazine that Johnson thought Jeffries was the greatest. So, why is this man not remembered? This original art by Karl Hubenthal was most likely printed in the Los Angeles Times following his death in 1953. A very sad, moving tribute to a man that helped to change boxing forever. Measures 12x15" and was beautifully executed by the dean of west coast sports cartoonists entitled, "8.9.10."
