A throwback to a more racist period, this cast iron mechanical bank by the J & E Stevens Company with 1888 patent date depicts members of two black baseball teams (pitcher, catcher, batter) competing above a base that features the words: "DARK TOWN BATTERY." The all-original piece measures 9.5" wide and maintains remnants of the original color paint. In some spots, the paint is all but gone, but in other areas the color tones can still be seen. Parts of the players' bodies move, with the catcher's chest opening to house coins. Overall, it is Very Good and fully functional.
