He is the only horse to ever hold four titles in one year. In 1968, Dr. Fager was singled out as Horse of the Year, champion handicap horse, champion sprinter, and co-champion grass horse. That is attributable to what many consider one of the greatest single racing seasons by any horse in the history of the sport. In the 1968 United Nations, his only race on turf ever, Dr. Fager defeated reigning turf champ, Fort Marcy, and set the world record at 1 mile on any surface: 1:32 1/5, achieved on August 24, 1968, when he ran in the Washington Park Handicap at Arlington Park. Here's the presentational clock designed in a horseshoe shape that was awarded to the winning jockey, Braulio Baeza, who signed the inside flap. It comes in its original case with a gold-plated plaque that reads: "THE UNITED NATIONS HANDICAP WINNER - DR. FAGER JOCKEY - B. BAEZA." The clock is 2.5" wide and is currently not functional. The lot includes two photos from the race.
